Deserts are home to a diverse selection of arid plants. While some plants grow naturally in the desert, others have adapted over many years. However, there are some specific garden flora that do extremely well in desert climates.

Cactus and other succulent plants are naturally hardy desert plants that require very little care. Once they are established, most will survive on their own by receiving their moisture strictly from rainfall. The best varieties of desert trees would include the palms, Texas ebony, Palo verde, Cascalote, mesquite, Guajillo acacia, Mulga acacia, Joshua and ironwood trees.
